Can You Etch It – Cinnamon stick

Laser engraved cinnamon stick

Welcome to Can You Etch It, the web’s first laser engraving series that specializes in laser engraving strange, unique, and even common items.  Today, I thought it would be nice to etch something festive, so I will etch a cinnamon stick.

Cinnamon sticks presents a festive way to express creativity, especially when laser etched.  They are not as small as toothpicks or as bumpy as walnuts, but cinnamon sticks tend to not be flat and can be difficult to etch with much more than a small design or line of text.  Due to the uneven surface, I decided to engrave some 3pt text which is 3/72 inches tall.

Why…

Cinnamon sticks are probably not high up on the list of personalized items you were hoping to get this holiday season.  If you showed up at a party with a bunch of laser etched cinnamon sticks to hand out, you may not get invited back, but you will likely be remembered (maybe not for the reasons you expect or want).  It was an interesting exercise in layout and etching uneven items that was an interesting learning experience.

What’s Next?

For those of you who are keeping score, this is my first cinnamon I have laser engraved.  I have also engraved a sweet potato, a walnut, and a toothpick.  Next time, I think I will etch something a little more practical.  Stay tuned to find out what it will be.
