Fishing is a very popular past time along the gulf coast where I live. People spend a lot of money and countless hours participating in this popular past time. They buy boats, rods, reels, tackle, bait, etc. The list is almost endless. All the accessories that a fisherman need add up in both cost and quantity. Often, the most popular equipment is just that, popular and thus your friends will often have the same things. How do you keep track?
One of the best ways to keep track of our belongings is to personalize them in some way. This can be as easy as choosing a color or unique accessory. In the case of a fishing rod and reel, the fisherman has many choices in both rods and reels and thus, many combinations. Still, what can be done to add that personal touch for that expensive equipment? Can you do anything to prevent theft?
Laser engraving offers a great way to personalize many of the popular fishing reels since they often are made from anodized aluminum or at least, have anodized aluminum parts. The particular reel I am engraving today is an ambassadeur® C4 baitcast reel by Abu Garcia. The owner of this particular reel often goes fishing for red drum so that is the image that was engraved.
Why a fishing reel?
I enjoy challenges and unique products. A fishing reel fit both bills nicely. One of the main goals of Book Worm Laser & Design is to add creativity to everyday items. Adding a little interest to a fishing reel is inline with that goal and makes for an interesting conversation piece.
Here is a video of the side plate of the reel being engraved. The design was small and the video is just over a minute long.
