Can You Etch It – Stationary

Welcome to Can You Etch It, the web’s first laser engraving series that specializes in laser engraving strange, unique, and even common items.  Today I will laser engrave something a little more practical than I have in the past, stationary.

Stationary comes in all shapes and sizes.  Most of the time, you can purchase decorative cards that are very nice but what do you do when you want something unique?  You could get some cards laser engraved.

Laser engraving paper based products can create a nice effect.  When the laser strikes the paper, it basically does what you would expect, it burns the paper.  The extent of the charring depends on the power of the laser and can be factored into the overall design, depending on the look you are looking for.

Why Stationary?

I have had a few designs floating around in my mind to do with Thank You cards and other paper based products for some time now.  A situation came up that I needed a few cards and thought I would give them a try.  They look nice, but I am not sure it is something I would do again.  I have a few ideas utilizing the laser to cut out part of the card and replacing the paper with different colors (similar to stained glass) so the laser will see more stationary in the future.

What’s Next?

For those of you who are keeping score, the list is as follows: Thank You cards, M&M’s, a slice of bread, a clothes pin, a cinnamon stick, a sweet potato, a walnut, and a toothpick.  Next week I think we should explore ink.  Let me know if you have any suggestions for future installments.  Have a great weekend
