Laser Last Week – 03-18-12

Welcome to Laser Last Week where we explore some of the new information being published around the web dealing with laser engraving and assorted services.  I focus on the unique and remarkable, not the mass produced commodity.  This week had only 5 links that were interesting enough to make the list. If you have found any that I have missed, please let me know in the comments.  Enjoy.

Laser Last Week Links

3-23-12The first Apple iPad 3 engraving – from Laser Tattoo – YouTube – short video of a design being laser engraved on an iPad.  The logo looks great and covers just about the entire back of the iPad.  For those of you out there with an iPad, laser engraving is a great way to personalize the devices.

3-22-12Laser etching an iPhone – YouTube – Very short video of a design being laser engraved on an iPhone 4.

3-20-12How To Make A Tangible 3D Waveform – The Creators Project – Interesting project transforming an audio waveform into a 3 dimensional sculpture.  Very cool.

3-20-12Laser Machine Plays Portal’s “Still Alive” by Etching Metal – Geekosystem.com – One of the stranger Laser Last Week links, this one has a video of a laser etching out the tune from a video game.  Very strange but oddly interesting.

3-19-12Local Artisan Garners ‘Monumental’ National Award – Yankton Press & Dakotan – Great example of a laser engraved monument that won a national award for the company.  This example really shows how laser engraving can really enhance what could be a common item.

I hope you learned something about laser engraving today and how it can be used.  What was your favorite link?  Leave a comment and let me know.
