It is important to have a support system when starting a business. That support system can be friends, family, or a group of people that you talk to regularly online but have never met. For most of us, friends and family are not the best source of support. Often, this is due to the paragim shift that is required for entrepreneurship. It is not their fault, that was the way they were taught.
When I grew up, everyone just went to college, got a job, maybe changed jobs 2-3 times in a career, then retired. Times have changed. More and more often, people are starting businesses, joining start-ups, and changing careers ever few years. With all that seeming chaos, it is more important than ever to have a support system.
I am fortunate in my support system but I am not alone. My support system consists mainly of my wife Sharon. She is the best wife in the world, just like many others. That is not to say my family is not supportive, they are, but starting a business is not the most mainstream thing to do. Sometimes risk is just too risky for most people to accept.
This Valentines Day, I think it is important to thank those who make our businesses possible. Those support people that play an integral part of our success deserve our attention and appreciation everyday, not just one day out of the year. So today, Valentines Day, February 14, 2012, tell those people how much you love and appreciate them.
I love you Sharon with all my heart. Thanks for being there with the support I needed.
